by | Feb 27, 2023

Welcome to MOBIX Stories! Join us on a journey around the world as MOBIX app users share their micromobility experiences. From New York to Tokyo, Berlin to Sydney: Discover how MOBIX is empowering riders to create a more sustainable future!

Meet our fellow MOBIXian Uygar, a PhD student in traffic and transportation psychology who calls Izmir (Turkey) home. With its beautiful beaches, historic landmarks, and delicious cuisine, Izmir is a city that’s begging to be explored on two wheels.

Q: Uygar, please tell us a bit about yourself and where are you located.

A: Hi there! I’m currently pursuing my PhD in traffic and transportation psychology at Middle East Technical University in Ankara. But I live in İzmir, a vibrant coastal city located in western Turkey 🙂 İzmir is known for its beautiful beaches, historical landmarks, and delicious cuisine.

Q: Which micromobility vehicles do you use?

A: I love using my bike for commuting. It’s not only a great way to stay active, but also helps me save time and money on the road. Occasionally, I’ll hop on a shared e-scooter too, but my trusty bike is definitely my go-to mode of transportation.

Q: How long have you been using MOBX – and how do you typically use MOBIX?

A: Since I moved to Izmir in April 2022, I’ve been a regular user of MOBIX. It’s been a game-changer for me! When I’m heading to work on my bike, I start up the app beforehand for sure.

Q: In which seasons do you use your micromobility vehicles? What was your hottest/coldest day with MOBIX?

A: Izmir is blessed with almost 9 months of beautiful weather, which makes cycling an absolute joy! When it’s super hot out, I make sure to drink a ton of water while I’m cycling. And I try to avoid riding when the sun is at its highest, I like to go early or wait until it cools down a bit. On rainy days, things get a little more complicated. See, most of the bike paths are along the coast, which makes it tough to stay balanced when the wind and rain start mixing things up.

Q: What’s the craziest thing you experienced during your MOBIX trips?

A:  I really enjoy listening to music while cycling. It has actually led to some cool conversations with people who stopped me to ask about my tunes. One time, a woman even mistook me for a foreigner because of my Brazilian music! I love that cycling in Izmir often means meeting new people (isn’t it a bit crazy?). When I run into another cyclist, we often strike up a conversation and have fun sharing tips and stories about cycling and MOBIX 😉

Q: Where would you like to spend your earned MOBX tokens?

A: Living in Izmir, I’ve found some fantastic places to dine and relax with a drink or coffee. These spots have become my favorites. Similarly, I have some trusted shops that I always turn to buy bike equipment and accessories. These shops have knowledgeable staff who are always ready to help me with my biking needs. As someone who frequently uses MOBIX, I would love to have the option of using my MOBX at these cafes, restaurants and shops. It would be great if these businesses could offer discounts or special deals for MOBIX users. Not only would it incentivize me to continue using the app, but it would also support local businesses that I value.

Q: Which shop should become the next MOBIX Market Partner?

A:  I have my eyes set on some awesome local businesses to become MOBIX Market Partners! I’d love to see bike shops like Doruk Bisiklet, Seda Bisiklet, and Sundu Bisiklet, as well as cafes, restaurants, and bars like Rare Coffee House, Cinatı Bar, Defne Cafe, and Mahalle the Restaurant on the list. These are all fantastic spots that I go to often and I know other MOBIX users would love to use their tokens there too!

It is common to hop on a ferry to cross the bay with your bike in Izmir.
