MOBIX Supports 7th UN Global Road Safety Week

by | May 12, 2023

Between 15-21 May 2023, WHO and its partners will hold the 7th UN Global Road Safety Week. This event focuses on sustainable transport, in particular, the need to shift to cycling, using public transport, and walking. The shift towards sustainable transportation necessitates road safety as both a prerequisite and a consequence.

Road traffic injuries are a leading cause of death and disability worldwide, with around 1.3 million people killed and as many as 50 million people injured each year. For people aged 5-29 years, there is no greater threat to their lives. Globally, 1 of every 4 deaths occurs among pedestrians and cyclists.

The Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030 reflects an ambitious target to reduce road traffic deaths and injuries by 50% by 2030. It highlights that they can be prevented by addressing the whole of the transport system, taking action to ensure safe roads, vehicles, and behaviors as well as improving emergency care.

Road Damage Detection with the MOBIX App

MOBIX will join forces with BUGEP and HED Akademi to participate in the UN Global Road Safety Week. MOBIX is encouraging its app users to participate by making trips with the MOBIX app starting May 17th for 5 days. Not only will they be able to earn MOBIX Miles, but they can also help collect significant road damage data. The MOBIX app can detect traffic data such as road conditions or damages using smartphone sensors. While MOBIX does not actively monitor these sensor data in accordance with our privacy policy, we will collect them anonymously for the duration of 5 days starting May 17, 2023.

MOBIX users are invited to actively participate in the 7th UN Global Road Safety Week by using their MOBIX wallets when cycling or riding their scooters. To facilitate additional data collection, MOBIX will activate this feature from May 17, 2023, for 5 days. This feature will be activated with the next update of the MOBIX app – so be sure to update to take part!

The objective of gathering road condition data is to examine and utilize the findings to enhance road safety for all individuals who use the roads. MOBIX intends to extend an invitation to interested parties, including individual researchers, research institutions, or municipalities, to collaborate on analyzing the collected data.

As MOBIX users, we encourage you to invite your fellow cyclist friends to join in the 7th Global Road Safety Week and contribute towards safer roads. Don’t hesitate to spread the word and encourage others to participate!

Join our MOBIX communities on TwitterLinkedIn, and Telegram, and discuss all things ecomobility with the MOBIX team – see you there!
